Ukana Federal Polytechnic: Rector identifies spirit of sportsmanship as panacea for healthy competition
The Rector Federal Polytechnic Ukana, Dr.Uduak S. Ukekpe has charged students to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship describing sports as part of education even as Federal Polytechnic Ukana Male and Female Relay Team emerge as 1st and 2nd Runners-up respectively in the Ritman University Inter-Faculty Games Competition.
Dr Ukekpe who was represented by the Chairman of Sports Advisory Committee Federal Polytechnic, Ukana Chapter, Mr Partick Nwagu , gave this charge during the Ritman University Inter -Faculty Games Competition held at the Ritman University School Field last weekend.
In his goodwill message to the University, Dr Ukekpe said ‘ I must commend the positive impact of the Management, Staff of Ritman University for recognizing sporting activities as part of Education and organizing the 2022 Inter-Faculty Games Competition which is an avenue for students to exercise their minds and bodies as it would make them complete and healthy individuals…May I use this opportunity to congratulate the participating students on this occasion and charge them to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and always engage in healthy competitions.I wish the Management, Staff and Students of Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene a successful and eventful Inter-Faculty Games Competition “he said.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion Hon. Jerry Anso Otu, commended the Vice Chancellor of Ritman University, Ikot Ekpene , Prof. Celestine A. Ntuen and his Management Staff for their efforts towards the success of the event .
He described sports as beautiful and on that note decided to make some donations to support sporting activities in the institution.
In his words,
“ I am going to build a standard tennis court for this institution with a minimum of 10 rackets. I will also hire a professional tennis coach for the students so that in the next Inter- Faculty Games , Ritman University will produce Champions” he promised .
The Climax of the event was the gift presentation to the Male and female Relay Team of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana who came out as 1st and 2nd runners up respectively in the 4x 100m Invitation Relay, which was done by Vice Chancellor Prof Ntuen and the organising team.
In a vote of thanks, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Celestine A. Ntuen, thanked all the institutions present as well as invited guests who had left all their busy schedules to honour the event. He also commended the Staff for their efforts in ensuring that the event was a success. He stressed that Ritman University is a fast growing institution with a population of over 511 students.
