NLC, TUC describe fuel, electricity tarrif hike as anti-people
The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, have said that the recent fuel, electricity tariff hike, and the push for water resources bill are anti-people and orchestrated tactics by the government to strangulate the ordinary Nigerian.
At a briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the organised labour threatened to cripple activities in some states where the governors have deliberately refused to implement the adjustment of the New National minimum wage.
Policies described by the organised labour, particularly NLC and TUC as anti-people include an increase in fuel and electricity tariffs, the controversial water resources bill and the Companies and Allied Matters Amendment Act, CAMA 2020.
The Unions said it has also began mobilising for protest over allegation of anti-labour practices in Rivers State.
With the impact of COVID-19 hitting Nigerians harder than expected, organised labour called on both state and Federal Governments to always formulate and implement policies that will not only develop infrastructure but also better workers welfare.
