AKWA IBOM AT 34: NGO flags off free Medicare for traditional institution
As part of events marking the 34th anniversary of Akwa Ibom State, Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara Partnership Project (IKOPP), a non-governmental organization flagged off the second edition of their FREE MEDICAL OUTREACH in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, today, September 25, 2021.
The event which took place at the Health Centre, Ikot Udoe, catered for the traditional institution in the areas of prostate examination/treatment, eye check-up/reading glass recommendation and general medical examination.
Giving his opening remark, the Principal of Ikot Ekpene and Obot Akara Partnership Project (IKOPP), Prince Samuel Ukut acknowledged the cooperation of the royal fathers, the critical role they play in the stability of our communities and the transfer of our values from generation to generation, stating that we need them in health to continue in their role to the younger generation.
In separate reactions, the beneficiaries comprising of the Paramount Ruler, Clan Heads, Village Heads, Village Chairmen, Family Heads and their spouses expressed their appreciation to the organization for their thoughtfulness in putting up the exercise notwithstanding the harsh economic realities on the ground, stating that most of them could not possibly afford such services without the body’s intervention.
The medical team comprised of Dr. Anthony Umana, Chief Medical Superintendent, General Hospital, Ikpe Ikot Nkon; Dr. Sunday Udoh, Deputy Director, Clinical Services/Training, Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital, Uyo among other reputable medics.
