60th Anniversary: Akase celebrates Makurdi Diocese
A leading governorship aspirant in Benue State for the 2023 polls, Mr Terver Akase, earlier today (Tuesday, November 9) joined the Bishop, Priests and the faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral for the closing Mass of the 3rd Makurdi Diocesan Synod.
The immediate Past Chief Press Secretary to the Governor who is a practicing Catholic by faith, expressed delight to be part of the spiritual event, which also marks the historic occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Diocese.
Speaking at the launch of the book, “Celebrating the Diocese of Makurdi at 60: You are Witnesses to these Things (Lk 24:48)” Mr Akase, commended the Church for her unrelenting efforts toward evangelization of souls and provision of social services for common good of the society.
He acknowledged that the Church’s sustained interventions in the educational and healthcare sectors as well as promotion of peace in the State, remain a reference point in its 60 years of existence.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP guber hopeful, solicited prayers from the faithful to actualize his aspiration to become Governor of the State come 2023, stressing that as a practicing Catholic, he is always guided by the Church’s teachings in all his life endeavors and would govern with the fear of God if elected.
The Mass was presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Makurdi, Most Reverend Wilfred Chikpa Anagbe, CMF and concelebrated by the Bishops of Bauchi and Lafia Dioceses, Most Reverend Hillary Dachelem, CMF and Most Reverend David Ajang, while Bishops of Otukpo and Gboko Dioceses were represented.
Priests, religious and the teeming faithful from all over the Diocese and beyond, attended the Mass, where a posthumous award was presented to Catechist Hannah Kyambe in recognition of her dedication to planting of many Churches in Makurdi Diocese.
Goodwill messages were delivered from various Dioceses and Congregations, who all congratulated the Makurdi Diocesan family for clocking 60 years of evangelization and hosting a successful Diocesan Synod.
