…As 2020 Press Week Committee pays courtesy visit
Ahead of the upcoming 2020 Press Week Celebration in the State, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection & Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWA), Prince Akpan Ikim, has pledged to partner with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), to make the event the best of its kind.
Prince Ikim made this commitment, Tuesday, 20th October 2020, when the Chairman of the 2020 Press Week Committee, Comrade Nsibiet John, alongside the State Secretary of NUJ, Comrade Dominic Akpan led members of the committee to pay him a courtesy visit.
The AKSEPWA boss who described journalists as agents of development and critical partners in nation building, seized the opportunity to thank them for always playing the pivotal role of keeping the people informed and abreast of latest development around them.
Prince Ikim who described journalists as people who have helped him a lot in the discharge of his duties as Chairman of the agency through their critical reportage, thanked them for always publicising the activities of the agency. He said the publicity his agency has enjoyed from the press ever since he assumed office has helped in awakening the consciousness of the people to the functions of the agency as enshrined in the Act establishing the agency.
He however used the visit to reiterate his readiness to building strong partnership with the Union and other critical stakeholders in keeping Akwa Ibom State clean and healthy for both citizens and investors.
Earlier in his remarks, the chairman of the Committee, Comrade Nsibiet John had briefed the AKSEPWA boss that the Press Week celebration was an annual event put up by the Union to honour her members and members of the public who have distinguished themselves in service within the period.
Comrade John who used the visit to brief Prince Ikim on the line up of activities for the week, also officially extended the invitation of the Union to him to grace the event.
High-point of the occasion was the presentation of schedule of activities for the 2020 Press Week celebration to the AKSEPWA boss.
It could be recalled that the theme for this year’s Press Week celebration is “MEDIA, CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT AND NATION BUILDING ”. The week-long event is scheduled to hold between 6th to 11th December, 2020.
Among some of the dignitaries that attended the visit in company of Prince Ikim include: Mr. Nsikak Titus, PDP Chapter Chairman, Oruk Anam; Mr. Godwin Udom, Chairman State Technical Education Board, the PDP Standard bearer for Oruk Anam, Mr. Kingsley Akpan and his running mate, Mr. Abasiama Etukakpan.
