Uyo Rotary club Installs Ofonmbuk Nelson as New President
…Reiterates Commitment to Humanitarian Services, sets Seven point agenda of social impact
The Rotary club of Uyo has installed Rtn Ofonmbuk Nelson as its 37th President with a renewed commitment to serve humanity.
The installation ceremony which also featured inauguration of board of directors, induction of new members, and inauguration of community service project took place in Uyo on Sunday.
Rtn Ofonmbuk Nelson is a Deputy Director and Head of Department, Directorate of Agricultural Investments, Akwa Ibom State Investments Corporation (AKICORP), office of the Governor.
In his maiden address, the new president, Rtn Ofonmbuk reiterated commitment to act in line with the Rotary’s vision statement tagged, “together we see a world where people unit and take action to create lasting change across the globe in our Communities and in ourselves.”
He noted that during his tenure which he codenamed as “Pathfinders year,” the club will focus on seven areas including; basic education and library project, protecting the environment, community economic development, peace building and conflict prevention, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, and building of Rotary skills acquisition house at Akpa Ube Street, Uyo.
Rtn Ofonmbuk who is a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, appealed to well spirited groups and individuals to support the projects and contribute to making a better society.
Earlier in his remarks, the chairman on the occasion, Rt Hon Onofiok Luke, commended the impact of Rotary club in the society saying times were becoming more challenging hence the need to join hands to serve humanity.
He decried the increasing number of helpless children loitering the streets in the state and promised to partner with Rotary club of Uyo to salvage the situation.
The event also featured empowerment of 20 indigent widows with N50, 000 each as sponsored by Global Entreprenural Foundation.
