United Evangelical Church Four Towns says fraud allegations against Pastor false
…The church management also absolved Rev. Chris Effiong of wrong doing
United Evangelical Church Four Towns, Uyo has described allegation of fraud and embezzlement against the resident pastor, Rev Chris Effiong as fake.
Media reports in some state-based newspapers had accused the resident pastor of United Evangelical Church Towns, Uyo of embezzling one hundred million naira purportedly donated by Governor Udom Emmanuel for ongoing church building project.
But the management of United Evangelical Church Towns, Uyo, has dismissed the allegations as false and absolved Rev. Chris Effiong of wrong doing.
This is contained in a statement signed by Elder (Amb.) U. C. Akpan, Chairman Church Management Committee, United Evangelical Church Towns, Uyo and the Secretary of the Church Management Committee, Deacon Ubong Sambo.
In a statement entitled ‘Re: Fraud Scandals rock United Evangelical Church Uyo,’ the church passed a vote of confidence on the resident pastor, noting that “there is no plan by the church management to sack Pastor, Rev. Chris Effiong”.
“The Church Management Committee and the entire members of United Evangelical Church Four Towns, Abak Road, Uyo, have read a misleading and false news trending in the social media and some newspapers of a Pastor from United Evangelical Church Four Towns, Abak Road, Uyo embezzling millions of naira donated by Akwa Ibom State Governor for the purpose of church building.
“The church management committee deems it fit to make some clarifications based on this false publication. For the record purposes, it is important to note the following:
“That United Evangelical Church Four Towns, Abak Road, Uyo has not accused the resident Pastor – Rev. Chris Effiong of any money embezzlement.
“That the Governor never donated one hundred million naira to the church.
“That based on findings by the Church Management Committee, Rev. Chris Effiong does not have and is not constructing any storey building for himself in a choice location as alleged.
“That there is no plan by the church management to sack the Pastor, Rev. Chris Effiong.
“That the duty of Pastors in United Evangelical Church worldwide is purely ecclesiastical and they are not signatories to the church account.
“While investigation is still on-going to uncover and apprehend the master minders of this fake news, the general public is adjoined to discard in totality this news trend and consider same as fake,” the statement read.
