…AKISIEC ready for LG polls
The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), Elder Aniedi-Abasi Ikoiwak has reiterated the commission’s readiness to conduct a credible local government elections in the state.
The Chairman said that the October 31 local government polls is sacrosanct, adding that proper arrangements have been put in place ahead of the exercise.
Speaking with newsmen in his office on Monday, the AKISIEC boss disclosed that the Commission is organising training for EOs and adhoc staff in preparation for the polls.
His words, “we are ready for the election on October 31, that is why you see us working day and night to ensure the success of the election”
Ikoiwak also reacted on the alleged disqualification of chairmanship candidates of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) for the election, saying, the Commission has no power to disqualify any candidate of a party.
He said candidates names submitted by the political parties to the Commission with due process with participate in the election
He said in the case of NRM, the candidates from Esit Eket and Ukanafun upon purchase of forms, did not submit names of their Vice Chairmanship candidates which was a requirement in Forms 001 and 002.disclosing that the Chairman of NRM, Chris Ben smuggled in names of the Chairmanship candidates for those areas on the day of the screening which automatically disqualified his candidates for the criminal act.
Commenting on the protest by members of NRM, the Chairman said it was baseless and meaningless.
