FedPoly Ukana: Rector tasks fresh students on good conduct
The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ukana , Dr. Uduak Sunday Ukekpe has charged newly admitted students of the Polytechnic to shun acts capable of derailing their future, but should take their studies serious in order to graduate in flying colours and become good ambassadors of their families and the institution.
The Rector gave the charge during the 7th Matriculation Ceremony of the institution, held at the 250 Capacity Lecture Theatre Hall at the Main Campus of the Polytechnic.
Dr. Ukekpe who congratulated the students and their parents/ guardians for witnessing the matriculation exercise, challenged the fresh students to work hard in order to achieve academic success.
“ I envision a Polytechnic that is first among equals , most preferred as a foremost world class technology institution, producing highly skilled , industry- compliant graduates capable of initiating and sustaining enterprise , hence, I challenge you to work hard to achieve this feat“ he said.
The Rector assured the students of the readiness of the Polytechnic to provide first class learning facilities for their training and comfort. “ we are not resting our oars , it’s our dream to enlarge our academic menu by seeking accreditation for more courses as well as mounting Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes. “As a foundation we have created conducive atmosphere for learning, upgraded your Libraries , Laboratories, Workshops with more sophisticated equipment as recommended by National Board for Technical Education. (NBTE)” he said.
He reiterated that the institution has zero tolerance for cultism and other social vices and warned them against indulging in such acts, as culprits would be sanctioned accordingly.
“I advice you to be law abiding, shun cultism, face your studies squarely, live harmoniously with other students and staff and obey the rules and regulations of the polytechnic as the management will not hesitate to sanction any student whose behaviour goes contrary ,” he warned.
He also assured them of maximum security on Campus but pleaded that any suspicious activities should be reported to the appropriate authorities.
At the event, goodwill messages were presented by the Chairman Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Chief Yemi Sanusi, an Akwa Ibom State Jamb Coordinator and the President of the Student Union Government of Federal Polytechnic Ukana.
During the matriculation,250 students were admitted into the departments of Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Science Laboratory Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Administration and Management as well as Accountancy.
