It was a mild drama in Edo State on Wednesday as seven Peoples Democratic Party’s law-makers met and removed the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Yekini Idaiye.
Recently, the ousted deputy speaker led 3 other members of the state assembly to pledge loyalty and support to the All Progressive Congress governorship Candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-iyamu in the forth coming Edo gubernatorial election in September while alleging that the governor of the state have nothing to show for his first term and therefore does not deserve a second term.
The removal motion was moved by Henry Okhuarobo, who represents Ikpoba okha constituency, and seconded by Marcus Onobun representing Esan West constituency.
In Idiayr’s place, Roland Asoro who represents Orhionwmon south was announced as the new deputy speaker.
Henry Okhuarobo is now the majority leader. Also, Marcus Onobun representing Esan west replaces Henry Okhuarobo as the chief whip, while
Sunday Ojiezele representing Esan South East is now the deputy majority leader.
All seven members at plenary including the speaker are now members of the Peoples Democratic Party having recently decamped with Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Three other members were not at the plenary including the removed deputy speaker Yekini Idaiye, Nosayaba Okunbor representing Orhionmwon East and Emmanuel Agbaje representing Akoko Edo 2.
At least thirteen members-elect of the Assembly are yet to take their seats due to political rancour since the Assembly was inaugurated in June of 2019.
Idaiye was among the 10 lawmakers inaugurated by Governor Godwin Obaseki. He has remained loyal to the governor until when he refused to decamped to the PDP along with the governor.
Meanwhile, recently the deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shuabu has accused the former governor of the state and former National Chairman of APC, Comrade Adams Ohiomhole of plotting a third term through a surrogate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in breach of the constitution.
