Crime Prevention: Police Chief solicits closer tie with Fed Poly Ukana
The Police Area Commander Ikot Ekpene, ACP Ogbonna Okoronkwo in a bid to foster a good relationship between the Nigerian Police and the Polytechnic has paid a courtesy visit on the Rector ,Federal Polytechnic Ukana.
The courtesy visit took place at the Rector’s conference room in the Main Campus of the Polytechnic , Monday.
According to ACP Okoronkwo, the visit was to further cement the good relationship that exists already between the institution and the Nigerian Police Force .
He mentioned that the institution was a major stakeholder under his jurisdiction as Area Commander and as such deserves to be given a sufficient security coverage.
The 21st Police Area Commander Ikot Ekepene , extolled the Rector for his exploit in the Polytechnic and promised to help the institution fight cultism to a stand still through intelligence gathering and Police visibility around the Polytechnic from time to time.
He reiterated that his mission was to ensure that everyone under his command which comprises of Obot Akara, Ikot Ekpene, Essien Udim, Ini and Ikono LG’A’s will go to sleep with their eyes closed and also go about their lawful duties with no fear, and Federal Polytechnic, Ukana was not left out of security coverage.
Responding , The Rector Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Dr. Uduak Sunday Ukekpe, expresed his joy over the visit stating that without proactive policing no meaningful results could be achieved in an institution.
In the words of Dr. Ukekpe ” Our institution is situated in a remote area and remote areas are usually prone to crimes. Infiltration of the campus by persons suspected to be cultists has posed a security challenge hence, the need for serious police intervention” .
The Rector appreciated the Area Commander and his team for working hard to reduce crime rate under his command and for giving the police force a good image through professional conduct and infrastructural interventions within the command. He also commended the Police Commander for conducting Police screening on students who were vying for elective positions in the Student Union stating that such action alone has registered in the subconscious of the students that there is Police presence in the Polytechnic. He pledged to give the Police any form of assistance the institution can afford to aid the discharge of their functions.
In a vote of thanks, the Officer in Charge of Servicom , Ikot Ekpene Area Command, ASP Francis, appreciated the Rector for the warm reception and prayed to God to continue to protect and strengthen the cordial relationship between the institution and the Nigeria Police Force going forward.
