Leaders of the peoples Democratic party have staged a protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) demanding for free and fair elections in EDO and ONDO states.
The Deputy National Chairman of the party, Sen. Suleiman Nazif said the move was borne out of their need to get first hand assurance from INEC that the elections would be free and fair.
The PDP national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus who presented a protest letter to INEC , said the party was deeply worried because of past experiences especially those of Kano, Kogi and Bayelsa states.
INEC National Commissioner, Election Observation and Party Monitoring , Prof . Antonia Simbine, who addressed the PDP leaders said the commission’s management team has just returned from a visit to Edo state, and ensured that everything for the election was in place .
She explained that all materials, except sensitive ones have been distributed across the state and there was no cause for alarm.
The edo state election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, while that of Ondo is billed for October tenth.
