Akase institutes sponsorship of students in ICT
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 2023 governorship aspirant in Benue State, Mr Terver Akase has instituted the sponsorship of three secondary school students who emerged winners at the maiden edition of a Computer Quiz competition organised by the State chapter of Nigeria Computer Science Society (NCS).
He said the students will be enrolled for further training at Greg & Co ICT Limited, Makurdi, as his modest way of encouraging the drive of Information and Communication Technology, which he noted is a viable tool for job and wealth creation, stressing that he is poised to make the State an ICT hub for youth empowerment.
Mr Akase stated this Thursday (December 9) at the Award Ceremony for winners of the competition which held at the Conference Hall of Ministry of Science and Technology Headquarters, Makurdi.
Represented by the Director of Media of his Governorship Campaign Organization, Mr Nathaniel Nongu, the 2023 guber hopeful acknowledged the vast potentials in the ICT subsector, saying it must be harnessed into economic prosperity.
While emphasizing his special interest in ICT, Mr Akase said if elected, his administration will laise with experts in the sector, to come into the State and build hardware towards opening up a digital economy, pointing out that such would be of great benefit to the youthful population of the State who are tech savvy.
Mr Akase commended the State chapter of the NCS for the initiative to organise such a programme for the students, saying it would go a long way in catching the young talents and pledged to always support the Society in its activities.
He congratulated the students especially those who emerged winners and urged them to sustain interest in ICT.
In his remarks, State Chairman NCS, Dr Simon Yange of the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi said the event was put together to present awards and certificates to deserving winners at the just concluded Computer Quiz competition and sued for more collaboration from stakeholders towards the sustainability of the exercise.
Three male students all of Makurdi International Secondary School, emerged winners of the competition with Ikebudu Emmanuel Ikechukwu clinching overall best position, Divine Ohagwu Item took second position while John Caleb won the third position and they were presented with prizes of new laptop computers and certificates.
